Julio Blanco (Javier Bardem) has a place on his wall reserved for an award for business excellence, and that is before the deciding committee has even arrived. A couple of PR disasters, though, are looking like they could cost him his win. Written and directed by Fernando Léon de Aranoa, The Good Boss is a darkly funny satire on the façade of corporate life and presents Blanco as a smiling villain, desperate to secure his image and authority. Intricately plotted, each detail and twist is like a cog in a well-oiled machine – or, perhaps, like a hard-working and valued member in the Blanco family.

Javier Bardem, the good boss himself, is superb. In almost every scene of the movie, he displays enormous range while also presenting a highly specific character. He's one of the most versatile - and, simply, one of the best - screen actors working today.
